CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic is a holistic, non-invasive approach to treatment where a practitioner uses their hands and other tools to help relieve problems with muscles and joints. These tools can include interventions such as soft tissue manipulation targeting muscle tightness and soreness, as well as joint mobilisation (assisted, repetitive motion through a joint's partial or full range) and joint manipulation (commonly referred to as an "adjustment.")  Joint manipulation involves delivering a controlled, sudden force to a joint to help improve motion and can often provide short term pain relief.

Not all pain is tissue damaging pain which means not all pain needs to be feared. Though pain is understandably an uncomfortable experience, we will help you to develop a better comprehension of how pain works, allow you to understand when it is and isn’t appropriate to work through pain and understand that pain alone is not the sole metric to measure your progress.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We believe in a well-rounded approach and therefore treatment will typically include joint manipulation, soft tissue therapies (manual release, dry needling or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation) and exercise recommendations to target areas of weakness or tightness and progressively get your body refamiliarised with doing things that have been hurting.

When it comes to rehab exercises, body weight and band exercises are not always enough to to get patients back to 100%. By treating out of a gym, the clinic has access to more robust equipment such as barbells, cable machines and plyo boxes that can be used to progress you past the point where care might typically stall out when using body weight and bands alone. Depending on your goal and condition, we may choose to implement some of this equipment with you to help facilitate your recovery.

Healing ultimately takes time and requires your input: be prepared to make modifications to your daily routine, at times to perform prescribed exercises, or even to gradually change how you think about pain and injury

DRY NEEDLING

Dry Needling (also known as Western Acupuncture or Medical Acupuncture) is a technique often used a part of a wider pain management plan to treat musculoskeletal pain and movement issues.  It involves a practitioner inserting thin needles into your skin, muscle or connective tissue to stimulate a response which might range from simple pain reduction to reducing muscle spasm or improving mobility.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Needles used are solid and do not inject liquid into your body, hence why the treatment is referred to as "dry." Needles used are much thinner than a hypodermic needle and are kept sterile in single use packaging, never re-used from one patient to another. Patients will typically experience a pin prick when the needle is inserted but treatment is otherwise generally painless and can vary in duration from a few minutes to 10-15 minutes depending on treatment location and goals. Some patients may also experience mild muscle soreness for a day or two after care, which is a normal response and will go away by itself though hydration, movement and stretching can help speed up the process.
